Perry was born in Chicago to two actors Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Perry made her debut in television shows as Jackie Harris, a character that was played by her mother on the ABC comedy Roseanne. However, her parents were not keen to let her take on acting roles until she was older and worried about the consequences of stress. Perry says she didn't want to perform in highschool but decided to start playing as a way to make friends during her time at Northwestern University when she switched to the university from Boston University. Following her graduation, Perry moved to New York to search for jobs on television, landing small parts in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent However, she was stricken by homelessness and brought the actress back to California and she was able to find theatre jobs. Perry starred with her mother as part of The Other Place at Broadway the previous year. The show featured her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 in The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry played a role in 9 episodes of The Family, an ABC thriller The Family in 2016. In 2017, she starred in a recurring role on her own ABC Political thriller Scandal with her father. She also played her younger Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon which was which is a CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. The role was given to her through audition, even though she is a relative with the role.
